In the kitchen

Food.

It not only sustains us nutritionally and energetically, but it also satisfies our emotional desires. With all of the different plants, animals, cuisines, colors, scents, and flavor profiles, food provides us with limitless choices for fulfilling our desires. Whether it's the smell of coffee to wake you, a crunchy granola bar to energize you, or a fudgie brownie to comfort you, food is always catering to our emotions. (As a professional baker, I know all too well how much food affects your mood and emotional desires.)

There is also the more obvious side to food: physical nourishment. Human beings, as part of nature, can obtain all of our nutritional and energetic needs from the environment, be it plant or animal. A simpler diet, consisting of wholesome, natural ingredients is key to a healthy body and a happy life.

Whole foods - fruits, veggies, grains, humanely raised livestock and poultry - this is what makes for a healthy lifestyle. Chemical-laden, processed foods are dangerous to both the mind and the body, having adverse effects on energy levels and digestion. This does not mean you have to give up sweets and junk food. Cravings must be satisfied for our mental well-being, so the occasional treat, if not too dangerous, is not only ok but necessary.

Eating a wholesome and natural diet can not only simplify your life, but bring you joy and happiness through a nourished body and an uplifted spirit.
